wsop horse

I just got done watching this years horse final table and just lost a ton of respect for a few players and even more for espn coverage.

I'll start with the coverage this has been touched on before in blogs but this was just terrible.  They show what the word horse stood for which i'm sure we all know is.  After showing this they jumped around showing alot of holdem then stud then omaha and so on and so forth. Now I know they can't show the entire thing but, they should atleast show hands from each level and not skip around like that.  This is sure to confuse the casual watcher and not keep their interest losing a valueable demographic in espn's viewership for poker.  This also alienates the poker players who enjoy watching poker.

Now I want to hit on the players both the attitude, the way the presented themselves at TELEVISED the final table at an event meant to be honoring chip reese, and the some of the plays made at the table.  Starting with DeMichelle who was showboating in extreme excess after a few wins, this led to the cursing and all out dispicable behavior of scotty nguyen with the bad mouthing of demichelle, cursing about his beer not coming, and getting way out of line in general and having way too much to drink.  People were also coming up to the table to high five scotty after a hand.  It got so bad that scotty ending up getting eric lindgren cursing at him.

Now for some of the play, one hand in particular where scotty had nothing knew he was beat the lead out to, as he said, protect lindgren's hand.  I completely believe scotty was protecting lindgren so demichelle could not have a chance to win heads up.  There is never a time where anyone should protect a player with a low chip stack in order to get even with or show up another player.

So now I leave you with these questions.  Should you be aloud to drink alcohol at a poker table in a live tourney, especially one that is this important and going to be televised?  When something like this happens why would you put it on television? finally,  If this event or others like it are going to be televised will they ever get it right?

I’m sad to say, I was ashamed of Scotty last night. It was all *bleep* this and *bleep* that. He’s been in my top 5 for years, and now I place him with Gavin Smith. I know Scotty is better than that, but he lost allot of fans last night.

My hat’s off to Erick Lindgren for his statement after Scotty busted him out. “I couldn’t beat a DRUNK!”

THAT was a Scotty I hope to NEVER see again! I mean his own brother died after Scotty’s first bracelet, by going out and getting drunk and crashing. Last year Scotty wanted to win FOR (in memory of) his brother. This year, he played AS his brother.

      I’m still shaking my head.
