Liars and Thieves
My mama always told me growing up, "You can lock your door from a thief, but not a liar".
To some extent that is true, but when the liar is the thief, we allow them the opportunity to rip us off.We need to recognize that we have opened our doors to people from all walks of life playing poker on the net. We try to distance ourselves from those we don't share other characteristics and ethics with us, the same as in real life. Even if you have met that person in real life doesn't mean that their words and commitments are true.Personally, I was always a trusting person.
After being taken advantage of several times, a dear friend of mine told me "People should have to earn your trust..." They are not entitled to it".Recently, I responded a blog here on Poker Space that was looking to send cash for site money. Since I had the site money and but not enough to cash out, we made a deal for the transaction. I checked with several people who vouched for their past transactions prior to finalizing it.
This person wanted $200 on one site.He sent the entire $200 via PayPal, gave me a confirmation number and I sent $100 pending receipt of the funds. After the funds were in the PayPal account, I sent the other $100.Done and closed.A week later they wanted $100 on another site. The person gave me the PayPal confirmation number and I transferred the $100.
A week later, I am notified that the funds were reversed from PayPal because the payee disputed the charges.I contacted the person on Friday, who said, yeah because PayPal supposedly over debited his account, but he didn't tell me until I send them a message. He assured me he would now Western Union the $300 on Wednesday March 2, because his were out of town on a family emergency and he didn't have the extra cash with him.
On Wednesday, he said. PayPal hasn't refunded my money yet, but they are supposed to have it cleared by 8am ET on Friday March 4. His quote "BUT either way, I will Western Union the money by noon on Friday." (This was for Friday March 4)It is now two weeks later, March 18. He has yet to contact me.He acknowledged he owed the money to me via a 3rd person and claims PayPal hasn't fixed his account as late as Monday, March 8.
1)How did PayPal over debit his bank account?2) The excess funds were never paid into my PayPal account. 3) The funds were taken away because the payee disputed the payment due to fraud.Because this refers to online gaming, we can't argue the point with PayPal.4) Days later, all I had gotten was an arrangement to 'make it right'.5) After the last deadline has passed by two weeks and no money has been sent without further direct contact with me... What am I to think??
This person knows who they are, as do several others. If it is paid by Monday, March 21. I will not openly post this person's name. However, at this point, several people know who this is.
In summary, there are liars and thieves among us. Be aware!!!!

Just because someone seems genuine, someone acts like they really need your help, and even when others here at pokerspace might vouch for that persons character you still open yourself up to being scammed.
Being scammed isn't fun and it hurts it can even make you feel and look really stupid. But at least now you have learned a valuable that some of us have already learned. No matter how rosey things or people look through those glasses always be aware that you have opened yourself up to jerks who are just out to rip you off!

This person actually logged into PS Tues night and within minutes visited my profile page, but didn't respond to the PM that I sent him last Friday afternoon. He then later logged back into PS the same nite/early Wed morning and still I havent heard from him. I was actually trying to wait for him to get that message and give him time to answer.
Unfortunately, Ken.. This person seems not to be concerned about repaying me. This was not loan, but apparently I am eating his losses at the tables.
