Dude

I have been playing online poker for 5 years now and have been through some major swings. I can never build my bankroll too high just wondering if anyone had some tips on how to help gro your roll.

yeah start off playing 1/2 no limit cash games... and never bring more then 10% of your bankroll to the table... and if ur a tight-agressive players, sky is the limit for building up your roll.

i always scout out games before I sit down, watch for awhile and see how players are playing. Loose, aggressive, tight, whatever the case, do some studying and come into the game with a little advantage of knowing something about your opponents. Even write it down if that helps. That way you can stay away from good players and maybe sit with donkeys and tilting players. Try that out before you sit down at a table and maybe it will allow you to build a better bankroll.

Dude,
Swings are an inevitable part of the game there is no doubt about it. Major swings to the point where you are no longer building your roll, sounds to me like you are playing outside of your roll. If you can be a little more specific perhaps, I can offer some suggestions. That said I would suggest staying at a level where you can consistently post positive numbers, as others have suggested, table selection is important and what rackemstackem is eluding to be not playing outside of your roll. |

What is outside of my roll ?
20 Bi after a 10 bi downswing is only 10Bi ... should I have 30 or 40 Bi ??? |

Outside of your roll depends on your experience and comfort level. If you were sitting at $100 nl with a roll of $2000, I wouldn't let myself go on a 10 buy in swing before dropping down to $50 nl to rebuild my roll and take another shot at moving up limits again.
Personally, I won't sit at a table with more than 2% of my roll, but I am mostly a tourney player and cash games are not in my wheelhouse. I have seen suggestions for anywhere from not sitting with more than 10% of your roll to as low as 1% of your roll. I really think the %'s are less important than your comfort level. |

yea its just kinda important not to allow yourself to go on a table with scared money, thats when people will take advantage of you

Yeah I completely agree. If you aren't confident sitting down at the table you should find a comfortable game. In poker, confidence in your game is everything and self-doubt is a costly thing.
