Are you surprised at the stable WSOP player numbers?

Author Message

After a dozen events already started at the 2011 WSOP it is clear that there hasn't been a massive slump in the number of players in the events. The recent article posted here on Pokerspace takes a look at the 8 events in particular, 5 that have shown decent gains and 3 that have had modest losses in players. For the details check out the WSOP article.

Are you surprised that the early events haven't shown the drop in player numbers Black Friday was suppose to create? The rest of the WSOP might be different, especially come the Main Event where online qualifiers usually get players into. But a lot remains to be seen with dozens of events to come.

...I would think most of the early events would see the same numbers in years past, the events are not that much of a cash buy-in for most players who play live poker tournaments. However that being said most players do not have or will not throw out $10,000 of their own cash so readily to play the final event. Gone missing will be the thousand's of free entries to the final event that were won on various poker sites thru satellites and or freerolls. I would expect to see about 4,000 to 4,500 players tops in this years main event...

kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably,
